DIRECTOR DISTRIBUTION

 

Job Summary

The Director of Distribution is the leader of total operations, who has a proven track record of achieving excellence through fostering strong relationships, delivering on priorities, problem-solving, building capability and leadership, and developing high-performing teams. Responsible for all distribution matters relating to: self-run distribution centers; third-party consolidation and storage facilities; orchestration of daily outbound transportation routing; cohesive customer service relations with selling clubs; resolution of supply chain management issues with vendors, as assigned by Home Office leadership; and long-term strategic planning in support of corporate plans and objectives. Duties include management of distribution workload region-wide; allocation of resources to optimize distribution productivity; oversight of distribution fundamentals to enhance asset integrity and adherence to corporate policies; communication with selling club managers and vendors as necessary to ensure timely support; and formulation and execution of applicable budgets and expense controls.

 

Major Tasks

  • Oversee all regional self-run distribution operations. Duties encompass analyses and planning of workload, allocation of resources, integration of processes to ensure seamless support of selling clubs, enforcement of safety standards, assessment of actual productivity in relation to benchmarks, and informing Home Office superiors of pertinent events.
  • Oversee performance of all regional third-party logistics providers, soft-lines, reverse logistics and associated services. Ensure compliance with asset integrity standards, and where applicable, proper application of on-site positive receiving procedures.
  • Solidify support to selling clubs through constant communication with zone, regional and selling club executives and managers. Spearhead resolution of emerging problems relating to packing, packaging, trailer loading, positive receiving, and timing of deliveries.
  • Reinforce performance management skills with direct reports. Encourage the development and coaching of team members to achieve performance goals and objectives. Enforce proper communication between management and team members to foster a safe working environment.
  • Effectively leads the team by managing with vision and purpose, clearly communicating and giving direction, and validating results. Creates culture of a high performing team: where team members feel challenged, know how to be successful, are encouraged to do their best, and are recognized for their accomplishments.
  • Review changes in distribution philosophies to increase operational efficiencies and strive for continuous improvement, while planning strategically for the future of the business.
  • As assigned, resolve supply chain management inefficiencies between key vendors and BJ’s.
  • In coordination with Transportation, manage outbound transportation routing to ensure time delivery to selling clubs.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience: Ten years in a combination of physical distribution, transportation, resources management, e-commerce and retail.
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business
  • Ability to work in warehouse environment which includes heat, cold, noise and dust.
  • Ability to walk, stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours a day.
