Distribution Center Management – Summer Intern

Looking to gain valuable, hands-on experience in Distribution Center (DC) Operations by learning from our top leaders? Join our Management Development Program (MDP) for Summer Interns where you will get exposure to Distribution, including warehouse operations, crossdocking, outbound shipments, and safety programs. You will have the chance to connect leadership concepts to real-life DC scenarios all while participating in the MDP events such as: coffee with our CEO, networking events with other interns, end of summer project, and information sessions about different business units.

 

In this role you will report to a DC Manager and be assigned a DC senior/executive mentor.  This role is a key pipeline opportunity on the path to a DC leadership role with us.

Job Summary

 

Responsible for working with our DC leaders to gain an understanding of all general warehouse operations including, daily staffing plans, crossdock and put to club processes, and safety and loss prevention practices.  Ensures efficient merchandise flow between departments and 100% asset integrity on all outbound shipments to our Clubs.  Supervises timely and accurate receipt, staging, quality control, and crossdocking of all merchandise.  Prioritizes all high shrink merchandise to reduce potential loss.

 

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

 

  • Oversees the efficient flow of merchandise through the distribution center to ensure timely and accurate processing.  Confirms quality control processes are enforced to achieve 100% asset integrity on all outbound shipments. 
  • Coordinates the receiving, processing, staging, and shipping of all reset, storage, and cigarette operations.  Maintains safe and accurate trailer loading and ensures proper merchandise palletizing techniques are utilized to prevent product damage.  
  • Supports and assists the ongoing development of safety programs by raising safety awareness and reducing safety accidents/incidents.  Ensures the timely reporting, documenting, root cause investigation, and retraining of all safety violations. 
  • Certifies the timely investigation of inventory discrepancies and initiates follow-up training and resolution on all errors.
  • Develops and coaches Team Members and supervisors to achieve department goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Can-do attitude with a willingness to roll-up your sleeves and learn.
  • Interest in overall DC operations.
  • Agility and flexibility in working with different leaders/team members and in different departments.
  • People-focused, with positive leadership skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Email) required.
  • Open shift availability required.
  • At least 18 years of age.

Job Conditions

 

  • Ability to work in warehouse environment which includes heat, cold, noise and dust. 
  • Ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to use power equipment.
