Job Summary

 

The Promotion Analytics Manager will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of BJ’s Promotional strategic priorities. Reporting directly to the VP of Pricing & Promotion Analytics (Ex-Bain & Co), in this is a highly visible role you will collaborate with senior leaders in merchandising, finance and marketing in the creation of our strategies and will also be responsible for ensuring they are executed, measured and optimized based upon the business’s objective.

 

We are looking for a leader with exceptional strategic acumen, strong quantitative aptitude and senior-level communication skills who will take a data-driven approach to problem solving: structuring the problem at hand, developing an analytical approach, turning data into insights and insights into concrete, implementable actions that impact our business. The Promo Analytics Manager will lead an analyst to plan and execute our strategic priorities.

 

This opportunity is ideally suited for a highly-motivated general athlete (pricing/promo experience is a plus but not required) with a background in Strategy Consulting, Strategic Business Planning, Private Equity or Pricing/Marketing Analytics.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with the VP of Pricing & Promo Analytics in the development of BJ’s Future of Promo Strategy
  • Lead an analyst to execute on the workstreams of BJ’s Future of Promo Strategy
  • Develop recommendations to optimize BJ’s promotional funding to maximize ROI
  • Plan and execute in-market tests to derive learnings and improve the effectiveness of BJ’s promotional activities
  • Develop new ways to measure the impact and interaction of BJ’s promotional levers
  • Define and execute required ongoing reporting to support future promo activity
  • Conduct ad-hoc/special projects to support merchandising, finance or marketing
  • Proactively identify future strategic opportunities in the Promotions area
  • Help develop competitive promo intelligence for senior leadership
  • Identify and clearly frame problems/questions to be answered and socialize them with senior leadership, capturing their input
  • Develop clear problem-solving approaches to answering our strategic questions, turning them into concrete work-plans that can be executed against our deadlines
  • Perform zero-defect, world-class analysis
  • Develop impactful communication materials (ppt/word/email) for senior leadership, clearly articulating the problem at hand, the insights from the work, the proposed solution and next steps
  • Present confidently in meetings with senior leadership, turning meetings into collaborative working sessions that advance our strategic objectives
  • Maintain a collaborative working relationship with the Pricing & Promo Analytics team as well as with other stakeholders in Enterprise Analytics, Merchandising, Finance and Marketing
  • Coach and develop your direct report to ensure their career development
  • Disseminate best practices across the Promo Analytics team

 

Qualifications

 

  • 3-5 years of experience in Strategy Consulting or Private Equity or 5-8 years of experience in Strategic Business Planning, Pricing/Marketing Analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to frame and logically structure new or unfamiliar problems
  • Ability to learn quickly, becoming an expert in previously-unfamiliar topics (e.g. business concepts, analytical tools)
  • Developed business judgement to problem-solve effectively with a senior audience and recommend actionable solutions
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with manipulating large data-sets
  • Proficiency in Excel, Alteryx or Access
  • Solid understanding of statistics (hypothesis testing and test vs control methodologies)  and comfort with statistical software
  • Inquisitive mind: going beyond the immediate task at hand to identify implication, next steps or questioning the assumptions of the work / how we look at things
  • High motivation, with eagerness to run the extra mile to deliver world-class results
  • Very strong communication skills in Power-Point: ability to illustrate complex analysis and concepts in an easily accessible way that senior leadership can readily understand and act upon
  • Insight-orientation: ability to distill data analysis down to they key messages that matter
  • Advanced work-planning ability, managing work to deliver against tight deadlines
  • Flexibility and openness to reprioritizing work based on evolving strategic needs
  • Comfort with ambiguity
  • Experience in leading and developing a team of 1-2 direct reports
  • Leadership by example: we win as a team supporting each other and sharing information and our expertise with others
  • Collaborative working style: openness to different points of view, empathy and good listening skills to enable fruitful collaboration with our internal clients (Merchandising, Marketing, etc.)
  • Pricing/Promo experience is a plus
