Executes and implements strategies that result in reducing overall claim costs for general liability claims. This role will oversee the TPA’s handling of general liability claims to achieve optimal financial results, while collaborating with clubs and internal stakeholders to identify ways to mitigate exposure and reduce risk. This position will help educate the clubs on general liability claim investigations and will work closely with all external stakeholders including insurance carriers/TPA and outside defense counsel.  In conjunction with the TPA, will accurately set and monitor claim reserves, proactively review files for best practices, and explore new risk management initiatives to reduce claim severity and costs. The position will participate in claim reviews and assist with, analyzing current information on the claim, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the matter, and presenting a recommendation to managers.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provides direction to TPA on litigated general liability claims to ensure all discovery requests are timely answered, and there is a thoughtful legal strategy on the case.  
  • Partners with TPA to steer claims towards resolution, provides insight to defense counsel and ensures there is an efficient use of BJ’s resources.
  • Reviews open claims to determine liability and damages, assists in identifying, locating, and producing investigative materials and/or relevant discovery documents.  
  • Monitors claims to ensure the appropriate setting of financial reserves, including written case summaries  
  • Identifies claim trends and provides recommendations to the Claims Manager and Director, Risk Management, and Insurance for decreasing the frequency of claims.
  • Participates in an annual review of the performance of TPA; implements best practice audits.
  • Other tasks as needed

 

Requirements:

 

  • 5 plus years of experience handling litigated general liability and product liability cases including working with defense counsel and TPAs on complex high value cases
  • Ability to resolve complex problems bringing together key internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent team player, positive attitude
  • Insurance, TPA, or Retail experience preferred
  • System skills: LPMS, ViaOne, Riskconnect
