Job Summary

Conceptual thinker that understand the BJ’s business model and omni-channel opportunities as well as the competitive landscape in order to support marketing creative that drives traffic and sales and support membership, while conveying a consistent brand image. Responsible for concept development, execution and evolution of creative that meets brand style and tone for marketing communications across print, broadcast, digital and social channels. The Sr. Copywriter co-leads communication development for assigned creative projects; evolves work based on feedback and business needs. Responsible for content in support of BJ's brand and corporate initiatives –email, organic and paid social media, broadcast and in-Club radio, video and digital content.  Writes compelling copy to drive Club and web site traffic and sales as well as Club Membership.  Prioritizes multiple assignments, incorporates feedback from business partners and clients, seeks guidance as needed and follows-through with project team(s) on all assignments.  Performs other responsibilities as assigned.


Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Conceptualizes and develops creative for a full range of media with a focus on brand voice, tone and promotional value; including but not limited to omni-channel promotions, social and digital content, video and radio.
  • Collaborates with Designers and Marketers to determine creative direction and strategy of assignments. Responsible for maintaining brand vision and voice across copy and script
  • Partnering with Designers and Brand Managers, presents concepts internally to Design and Brand Managers, business partners and senior leaders.
  • Insures copy is on-brand and communicates intended strategy and focus. Works with Designers, Studio, Proofreaders, Legal, Brand Managers and other business partners and vendors to ensure strategy is met and accuracy is maintained.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationship with all Marketing team members, including Brand Managers, Traffic, Studio, Membership Acquisition, Community Relations, Public Relations and Ecommerce as well as business partners within other departments.


  • BA or BFA in Advertising preferred, English, Marketing, Journalism or other Communication-related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years related work experience
  • Ability to develop scripts/story boards for radio and video concepts
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team
  • Outstanding English language arts, writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including familiarity with standard proofreading marks
  • Ability to mentor other writers and designer
  • Proficiency in MS Word
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to present designs in front of co-workers, business partners and stake holders
  • Flexibility when incorporating feedback and last-minute changes


Environmental Job Conditions

  • Travel to clubs to keep up to date with club environment.
  • Travel to Photography studios as needed based on assigned projects
