VICE PRESIDENT, CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS

The Vice President, Corporate Communications is a highly visible role responsible for developing, leading and driving a dynamic internal and external communications strategy that aligns with and supports key business priorities and integrates all communication vehicles that touch BJ’s team members at the clubs, distribution center and home office. Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer, this is the lead role within the Communications structure.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Manage the Communications team and partners across functional areas to ensure that the communication plans and content are aligned with business needs to drive sales and improve engagement. The VP will work with all levels of the organization across the company including daily contact with the highest levels of the executive leadership team.
  • Act as company’s primary spokesperson to general media and business. Manage critical communications guidance for issues/media relations/crisis communications that could impact the Company's perception and reputation among key constituencies, including members, team members, media or investors.
  • Support the media relations efforts and serves as part of the on-call management team monitoring the media relations line on nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Monitor media coverage of announcements and correct inaccuracies in news stories.
  • Promote BJ’s brand in media outlets.
  • Participate in planning and preparation for Board and Shareholder Meetings; support development of the Shareholder Q&A.
  • Lead special events, particularly club openings, the annual team conference and employee town halls and celebrations.
  • Partner with recruitment marketing firm, Shaker, on driving employee value proposition through social media channels.
  • Corporate materials management and support.
  • Collaborate with the internal HR and Marketing teams on new buildout of career site and HCM implementation.
  • Partner with HR team on new hire announcements, organizational changes, new initiatives and Team Member Resource Group events.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years Corporate Communications, Media Relations and/or Public Relations expertise.
  • Experience in managing, partnering and overseeing contract agencies & vendors; PR, Social Media, Employee Value Proposition.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgement; knowledge of SEC and disclosure requirements preferred.
  • Hands-on approach, flexible, adaptable, delivering results in tight time frames and under pressure.
  • In-depth knowledge of issues/crisis management and media experience is required, as is experience coordinating communications efforts across a large matrixed organization.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional ability to present in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability and adaptability to be “crisis ready,” including flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed, and during department’s busy periods, both scheduled and unanticipated.
  • Understands dynamics in the investor marketplace.
